A huge thank you to the incredible organisers, volunteers, and everyone involved in making Tewkesbury Bonfire & Fireworks Night possible. You were all phenomenal!

Bonfire Night is a story that began more than 400 years ago, rooted in centuries of faith, politics, and conflict.

In 1605, a group of conspirators led by Robert Catesby planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament, concealing 36 barrels of gunpowder beneath the building. However, following an anonymous warning letter, the authorities searched Parliament and discovered Guy Fawkes guarding the gunpowder during the early hours on the 5th November.

That evening, bonfires were lit in London to celebrate the survival of King James I. The following year, Parliament passed a law establishing an annual day of thanksgiving.

Although the law was repealed in 1859, the tradition continued, gradually evolving into the Bonfire Night celebrations that we see today, bringing families, friends, and communities together.

Thank you to all those who supported the event. A dedicated GoFundMe can also be found here.
